Or how to “Protect the Gift”, by Gavin De Becker.
I first read about Gavin’s book on a Romanian parenting forum and I knew I just had to have it. I think I read it in less than a day and I must say I was thrilled; the book is simply practical and direct, and it brought about ideas and thoughts I had never before encountered. So, protecting the gift from what? Here’s what they put on the book’s cover:

*Safety skills for children outside the home
*Warning signs of sexual abuse
*How to screen baby-sitters and choose schools
*Strategies for keeping teenagers safe from violence

My daughter is very young now but I think the book gives accurate and useful advice for keeping your child safe from day one; I found interesting facts about what to teach children about strangers, about how to choose and figure out a baby-sitter and many other things which I want to share with you.
But before I begin, let me copy here the author’s note:

“Much of the language in this book is gender-specific to men; I don’t always write he or she, his or hers, etc. That’s because men, at all ages and in all parts of the world, are more violent than women. My language may not always be politically correct, but when it comes to violence, it is statistically correct.”
